In the southern part of the city, at the Mosnik local community, there is a Romani settlement “Kalebici”, some 2 km away from the centre of Tuzla.
According to the available data, this Romani community has about 70 residents.
Surveying was carried out with 33 inhabitants who make eight households and who are currently present in the settlement, are not outside of the country and do not refuse declaring as Romani.
There is only one person living in this settlement who is employed, and three are retired.
One family lives on collecting secondary raw materials, one family lives on social welfare and two fund their living by selling second hand goods at the market.
Out of the total number of respondents, 19 were children, of which 7 go to school.
All of the Romani families living in Kalebici are accommodated and have own houses. According to Zijad Jusic, our contact person in this community, the problems residents of this settlement are faced with, in addition to the problems faced by all Romani people, like unemployment and health protection, are mostly related to infrastructure: unfinished roads and sewerage.
